Philosophy: Emphasis in Psychology & Cognitive Science

A degree in Philosophy, along with undergraduate studies in psychology, is excellent preparation for advanced study in fields like psychology and cognitive science. Below are courses of study recommended for students with such interests.

Major in Philosophy, emphasis in Psychology and Cognitive Science

PhiL202 Introduction to Symbolic Logic (required for all majors)

PhiL344 Analytic Philosophy (required for all majors)

PhiL346 Minds, Brains, & Computers

PhiL430a Ethical Theory: Metaethics (satisfies Ethics & Value Theory distribution requirement)

At least one of the following to satisfy one History of Philosophy distribution requirement:

PhiL471a Rationalism & Empiricism: Rationalists

PhiL471b Rationalism & Empiricism: Empiricists

At least one more history (ancient or medieval) to satisfy second History of Philosophy distribution requirement

At least one of the following to satisfy Logic & Language distribution requirement; recommended:

PhiL432 Psychology of Language

PhiL463 Philosophy of Language

As many of the following as possible (up to four courses):

The descriptions of PhiL401A and PhiL401B as I intermediate and II advanced are misleading. They should be dropped.
